After spending a week in Mexico, I came to realize that I need to get back on the band wagon of exercise … again. I was not impressed with the way I looked in my bikini. It was hard not to compare myself with every other woman in the resort. While not everyone laying in the sun had the fittest of bodies, it was hard not to notice the ones who did.
And believe me, I did …
As I’ve shared in previous posts, sticking to an exercise regime is probably the most challenging of things in my life right now. I seem to put everything else I have to do ahead of exercising. It frustrates me.
I also lack motivation.
I am one of those people who need *company* to exercise. Actually, I’m being kind. I don’t need company. What I really need is a boot camp personal trainer to come to my house, yank me by the back of my shirt and drag me out to the gym. Not going to happen though. Personal trainer costs are not in my budget.
Running on an elliptical machine is boring. I’ve tried it. Several times. I do it for a week or two, maybe even a month and then quit. When I quit, I end up giving up until the next time I find myself feeling bad about my body.
So after much discussion with my two health freak/ super fit sisters, I came to realize that all I really want is three things.
I want a firm bottom.
I want a flat stomach.
I want toned legs.
So here’s what I did…
* I googled some exercise routines for butt, leg and stomach toning. I found exercises for all three. I ripped out two pages from a fitness magazine I found in my doctor’s office too. (Sorry Dr. D – it’s for a good cause though) All the exercises can be done in a period of 30 minutes. All I need is an exercise ball. I had one in the garage. Sweet.
*I stopped drinking my flavoured coffees. My water bottle goes everywhere with me now.
*I uploaded enough work-out music to my Ipod to last me 30 minutes.
My plan is to spend 30 minutes every night (or day) on my new exercises. If I get time to do my elliptical machine great but if I don’t, who cares. My new exercises trump the elliptical machine. As long as I’m doing something, I’m happy. I figure if I make my fitness routine a little easier to accomplish, I’ll be more successful.
And so it begins …
I must share with you my tummy flattening exercise though. It’s called the Plank Position. My sister saw it on an episode of Dr. Oz and swears by it.
You get into this position and you hold it for as long as you can. It works your ab muscles as well as your arm and leg muscles. You can do this a few times throughout the day but should start off slow and not over do it. You can hurt your back if you push yourself too much at first. The stronger your abs become, the longer you’re able to hold the position. You can feel your muscles engaging within seconds of being in this position. Try it. You’ll love it and hate it!
The end result is tighter, flatter abs.
A woman’s dream come true!
Now let’s see how long I can keep this exercise regime going before I fall off the wagon again! Think positive girl!
Will keep you posted!
