As a teacher and a Mom, I love books. Even before I became a Mom, I started to collect children’s books. I have an extensive collection which seems to grow at a phenomenal rate. Besides reading to my students in the classroom, I bring a lot of books home to read to my girls before bed. Like I’ve mentioned in previous posts, Story Time is a favourite time at our house.
In light of my passion for reading and collecting Children’s books, I’ve decided to highlight one or two books a month. If I’m not sharing with you a book I or my girls adore, I will enlighten you on new kids books that have come into the bookstores.
This month, I’m featuring a book collection my girls love ~ Fancy Nancy.
The character of Nancy loves everything fancy. “From the top of her tiara down to her sparkly studded shoes”.
What I love most about this book and others in the collection is how the author has the main character teaching the readers big words. Nancy will use the word fuchsia to describe her favourite colour and then explain how it’s just a fancy way of saying purple. In another instance, she uses the word stupendous to describe one of her ideas and then goes on to explain that it’s just a fancy word for great.
When asked what she likes most about Fancy Nancy books, my 5 year old has said the following:
“I love Fancy Nancy because she teaches me big words AND because she’s so fancy”.
We were introduced to Fancy Nancy books by Grandma Mary who bought Little B the first book of the series for her birthday. The book became a hit in our house and we’ve been collecting the other books in the series ever since.
