I’m linking up with the ever so witty and humorous Mama Kat for her weekly Writer’s Workshop. Mama Kat offered up a few writing prompts and I’ve chosen to write about a job I had in high school.
In high school, I worked here.
Yes, I worked at good old Chuck E. Cheese! I was a senior and I think in the eleventh grade when my good friend Carrie and I applied to Chuck’s for a job. We were both hired as Beverage Bar Cashiers which meant that we were the gals behind the food counter who took your orders.
We had the niftiest uniforms. A burgundy button up shirt and the dorkiest hat worn with a ponytail. I was the image of beauty, my friends. Molly Ringwald, eat your heart out! We wore these items along with our black pants, socks and shoes.
The coolest part about working at Chuck’s was the ball pit they had for the kids. It was gigantic and enclosed by a mesh netting.
It was even bigger than the one in this picture. Truth be told, after the family fun place shut down at night, Chuck’s staff would complete their clean up duties and then meet at the pitt for some good old fashion fun. We would practice our dives, jumps and flips and even play tag. The supervisor on duty would blast the sound system and us staff would have a party. It was our release from a day filled with trying to please children and parents. We had the time of our lives after closing. Friendships were made and strengthened.
The other highlight of working at Chuck’s was getting a four hour shift being the actual Chuck E. Cheese in costume. Aside from sweating while in the costume, you got to walk around the entertainment place, play Whack a Munch, video games, tease kids and flirt with cute boys who then wondered if you were a girl or a boy inside the costume. One time, a pretty cute guy waited until my shift ended to see who was in the costume. When he saw me coming out of the staff room, he approached and asked me for his number. Apparently, my pony tail was sticking out of Chuck’s head the whole shift and this boy knew I was female. For the record, not only was he pretty darn cute, I also lost the paper with his phone number. It wasn’t meant to be, I guess.
So there you have it! My high school job in a nutshell. Can you say you had a job as cool as mine? I don’t know. Pretty stiff competition if you ask me.
What job beats out working for the Chuck?
