Last year, I introduced Little B to the concept of gardening. Together, we planted a herb garden which included mint, rosemary, cilantro, dill and basil. Since we had so much fun doing this together, I decided to make gardening with the kids an annual event.
Only this year, we got Daddy involved!
Finally having a weekend with nice weather enabled us to get our herb garden going for Summer. Daddy and the girls filled our pots with compost dirt and a bit of potting soil. Considering the girls love to dig and get their hands dirty, they were completely in their element preparing the pots for seeding.
Even the teenager got involved with the gardening. She was in charge of helping the girls water the pots after the seeding was complete. As for the clean-up, well … Mommy was granted the honour of that job!
It’s amazing how interested and involved children get when they’re given opportunities to learn through doing and especially things they see grown-ups do. Since this day, the girls get up each morning and want to water the pots before heading out to daycare and school. They have not yet forgotten to take care of the garden they so happily and diligently helped put together.
These are the moments I will always remember ….
