Happy Friday! I hope everyone is ready for the weekend. I am! I’m also ready to get to know a blogger today and link-up one of my favourite posts for the week too!
Today, Ado from The Momalog is visiting with me. After reading her guest post today, you should hop on over to her place and read about her some more! If you’re not already following her on Twitter, you can do so via @AdoTheMomalog!
Ado has a husband and two daughters, Fiona and Ella, and lives with them in Washington, DC. Without saying too much more and spoiling any surprises, Ado is a writer with vast experience in the field.
Now let’s let Ado tell us more about herself.
Thank you Bruna for inviting me over to your wonderful blog to talk about myself. (It’s one of my favorite things to do!)
10 Things You Might Not Know About Me
1. The three things I love most: being a mom, writing, and traveling.
2. Before I even met my husband (“D.,”) he had to bail me out of airport jail at Heathrow. I was moving to Dublin from California to work for IBM as a writer, but I’d forgotten my work visa so I was put into airport jail (with lots of chain-smoking au pairs and illegal immigrants from all over the world). Frantic calls were made, including one to my future husband, who also worked for IBM. It was D. who convinced them to let me out and send me over!
3. It’s important to note that D. had protested hiring me. He didn’t want to hire a writer from California – he wanted to hire his friend John. So if he had gotten his way, he would have ended up marrying John O’Sullivan, instead of me! (-:
4. I am honest to the point of being rude. I find it impossible to choose diplomacy over honesty (even though it’s gotten me into a lot of trouble over the years.) Although admirable, it’s the bane of my existence. Here’s an example: when an old friend’s most recent relationship broke up, he asked me why his ex’s were all so angry at him.
Me: “Do you really want me to answer that?”
Him: “Yes.” (He really should’ve known better than to say yes…)
Me: “It’s because you are a self-absorbed, misogynist pig who devalues women. Also, you are a compulsive liar who is incapable of self-reflection. If you want to change things you will need rehab, medication, and a shrink – but you know this already so I don’t know why you’re asking me.” We haven’t spoken in 3 months, and I don’t blame him. I blame my compulsive honesty.
5. I despise football and baseball. I know this doesn’t make me very popular, either, so I usually keep it to myself.
6. I wrote a literary novel. I’m currently knee-deep in writing my second one.
7. We don’t watch television. Freakish, but there you have it.
8. The weirdest place I’ve ever been, aside from the house I grew up in, is in a canoe in a glow-worm cave in New Zealand.
9. I don’t drink. Both my parents died of alcoholism.
10. I have an MFA degree in writing, but nothing has taught me as much about myself, the world, and humanity as being a mother has.

Wow, what a fascinating and exciting list! Great to learn more about the person behind The Momalog, thanks for sharing!
Thank ye kindly! (-;
There I am all cocky thinking “I know Ado!!” and catchaaw: #2 and #3! Totally brilliant. Never ending fun with Ado. Double like.
You ladies make great lists; just saying.
…and “I know Northwest Mommy!” (-:
Same thing on this end.
Wow, my own mental list of unusual things about me sounds so dull after reading Adrienne’s! Number four made me laugh out loud (though I admit to feeling a bit sad for the old friend who got such an honest reply, and even sadder that he couldn’t handle it)!
I can never get enough of Ado!!!
Your compulsive honesty – has it met mine?
Well that’ll be an interesting conversation won’t it? I love brutally honest people. There are so few of us. (-:
A trip through a glow worm cave sounds really wonderful!
Great interview! I will have to go over and check out your blog. I almost got put into airport jail in the UK as well, but in Manchester not Heathrow. Also because of a work visa problem. Fun times!
I need to add a glow worm cave in NZ to my list of places to go! Amazing, I’m sure!
I love your story for #2. That’s definitely not one I’ve heard before when you ask a couple…Now how did you two meet? ;o)
“He bailed me out of jail” —> it’s unique, isn’t it! (-:
I think it’s so cool that you’ve been all over the world. And how romantic of D to rescue you from jail. That’s true love!
Love the story about your move and your future hubby having to help get you out of airport jail. It’s always interesting to try to think of 10 things that people might not know and that they would be interested in…your list was great and the compulsive honesty bit was amazing…congrats on another great post Ado.
Thanks Bruna!
Your painfully honest feedback was most likely long overdue. You are very brave and likable even though you do not like football.
Lovely photo!
Thanks, Bruna, for hosting the link-up! Hope your week was great.
You are so interesting and funny! I loved learning all about you. Such great stories and such a vivid life..you can tell. I am so glad I buzzed over to say Hello and find out that you’re just as awesome as I thought you were.
I love Ado! Her writing is beautiful! Love the story of how she met her husband.
I wish I was more honest. I really do. Nice to meet you. The no t.v. thing is admirable.
I love the story you can tell about meeting your husband. “Ya I was in jail and he bailed me out. Oh wait did I forget to say Airport Jail. ”
It’s nice to meet you.
I’ve been getting to know Ado for little while now and I didn’t know she was afflicted with brutal honesty like I am. Or was. I have learned not to do that anymore, but boy did I get myself in some hot water in the past!
I loved learning more about Ado, who is quickly become a favourite blogger of mine!
I am also honest to a fault and have to closely monitor what comes out of my mouth AND I do not drink.
It isn’t something that I don’t do ALWAYS.. it’s just something I don’t really enjoy much.
