Every year, my extended family plans a trip or a vacation that we all go on together.
This year, we went to Loon Lake in the beautiful Cache Creek area of British Columbia which is known well for it’s fishing opportunities. The long narrow lake is well-stocked with Rainbow Trout and Kokanee.
Since some family members of mine
hate don’t enjoy camping, we booked a house on the lake and all squeezed in together.
The house had plenty of room. We brought plenty of food and plenty of fun was had by all.
This was the view from the back deck of our house. We awoke to this gorgeous scenery every morning that we were there.
The highlight for the kids was getting to fish everyday and sometimes twice a day. The excitement to wear life jackets, ride in a boat or canoe, throw out a fishing line and wait in anticipation of a tug to their line was enough to entertain them for hours.
This being the end result. The smile lasted the entire day. The fish, caught by her own stick and held with her own hands. She couldn’t be any prouder.
Even Little H was into having some fishing fun. Although she never fished with her own rod, she was always excited to wear her life jacket, ride the boat and see the fish once they were caught. Maybe next year, she’ll actually try fishing on her own.
But fishing wasn’t the only thing making everyone happy on this trip. The fact that we were all together … cousins, sisters, parents and grandparents … was enough to make this trip special.
I know a certain grandpa who couldn’t get enough of both … fishing and grand-kids.
And a certain big-girl cousin who played with little B just enough to keep her happy and entertained.
I was just happy to be with everyone. The boat rides, the fishing, the getting to lay in the sun each day were only the icing on the cake. Being with my family, all of us together, made this 4 day vacation special in ways words cannot describe.
Especially getting to hang out with these two girls …
Yes, I love my sisters!
