At fourteen, we were the same but different.
When I was fourteen, I was still naive and innocent.
So is she.
When I was fourteen, I had orange streaks in my hair from using the hair product Sun-In.
She has purple streaks in hers.
When I was fourteen, two popular boy bands were New Kids on the Block and Menudo.
She goes crazy for One Direction and loves Coldplay.
At 14, I was infatuated with Rob Lowe, Tom Howell and Ralph Macchio.
She loves Harry Styles.
In the 9th grade, I wore neon coloured sweaters and matching socks.
She loves lime green shirts and wears bright orange gym shorts.
When I was her age, my favourite television shows were Growing Pains and Who’s the Boss.
She loves the Big Bang Theory, Face Off, Once Upon a Time, America’s Got Talent, Drop Dead Diva, America’s Next Top Model and the Ellen Degeneres Show.
At 14, I had a crush on a boy.
She speaks nothing of boys … to me.
At 14, I played volleyball on a school team.
She dances competitively.
At 14, I weighed 105 lbs and stood at 5 feet 2 inches in height.
She weighs 110 lbs and stands an inch taller than my now 5 foot 3 inch self.
At 14, I kept a diary and wrote short stories.
She does the same.
At 14, I no longer played the piano.
She is teaching herself to play guitar.
At 14, I thought my mother was always on my case.
So does she.
At 14, I made straight B’s on my high school report cards.
She made the honour roll.
I took French.
She takes Spanish.
I saved my money.
She spends hers.
I wanted to be a teacher.
She has no clue what she wants to be.
At fourteen, we were the same but different.
And thou shalt in thy daughter see, this picture, once, resembled thee.
~ Ambrose Philips ~

This is so nice. My daughter’s are too young yet for me to notice these things. I wonder if my own mom looks at me, than at her grand-daughters and thinks of such things. It will be interesting to see if how much they take after me, or their grandmother.
Some days I think she’s nothing like I was and other days I totally see myself in her. Funny.
Love this. So true!! Someday she’ll look back and say, oh yeah, Mom was right, most of the time!
