I still pinch myself every morning when I awake to the sound of birds chirping through my open bedroom window. The sunlight blinds me as I roll over in bed knowing I can sleep longer if I wish. Another warm, sunny day. Oh, how I love summer. It came early this year and so far, it has not been interrupted by rain and it’s hard to believe.
For this reason, the girls and I have been spending most of our time together outside.
The beginning of this season meant making sure our feet were prepped for the flip-flop wearing temperatures. Pedicures for each of us were in order and mama was the provider of the trendy toenail art creations.
Daddy has been making sure to take the girls bike riding in the evenings so they can practice their skills. Little B was happy to remove her training wheels and now proudly rides her new bike like a big girl. Little H, on the other hand, is still practicing but we’re sure it won’t be long before she’s ready to be free of her 2nd set of wheels.
We spent our first week of July celebrating Canada’s birthday at home and then followed with celebrating 4th of July down in the USA with family. Besides the usual firework extravaganza, the girls enjoyed collecting huckleberries in grandma and papa’s backyard and roasting marshmallows and hotdogs over a fire.
After Forth of July, we headed to Birch Bay, Washington where we spent the weekend with my parents at their summer place. The girls love going to “Beachwood” because there they are able to ride bikes, hike through trails, collect shells at the beach, swim in the multiple pools and roast marshmallows over a fire.
Last but not least, Little H celebrated her 5th birthday this month and of all the things to do for her birthday, she wanted to go to Menchies – the yogurt ice-cream shop. Once there, the girls and their friends decorated their own t-shirts, played games, pigged out on ice-cream and toppings and had fun opening presents. Smiles did not leave their faces!
Only half way through the month of July …
I can’t wait to see what the other half has in store for us!
What kinds of things have you been up to so far this summer?
