I did a really fun and creative art activity with my students last week. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner and the kids anticipating the day with great excitement, I thought an art activity using hearts would be fitting.
Having already prepared different size heart shape cut-outs for the kids to use as tracers, all I needed for the project were Tempura paints, brushes and a sharpie marker.
Oh and paper, of course!
I had the kids watch me demonstrate as I chose 3 heart cut-outs in different sizes. I then proceeded to arrange them on my white paper, tracing with pencil and overlapping one heart on another in an interesting arrangement that developed as I traced. I showed the children how to erase particular lines to create the “overlapping” look of the hearts.
Once the tracing was done and I was happy with my heart drawing, I proceeded to outline my hearts using a black, Sharpie marker.
Then, using Tempura paints in three different colours of my choice, I painted my hearts.
The kids really enjoyed creating their own heart design. I love watching how careful they were when painting their hearts, making sure to keep the colour inside the black lines.
Since this art activity proved so successful with my students, I did the same activity at home with my daughters. They are always game for arts and crafts with their Mama.
Even my sister exercised her creative side.
Pretty cute, huh?
A super fun and easy activity any mom can do at home with their kids!
