January 20th ~ was the last time I posted anything here.
So weird to think that four months passed and not a peep from me.
I’m actually surprised I had the willpower
or the lack of motivation to stay away from here for so long.
Of course, I still played a little on Facebook but only because I enjoy staying connected with extended family and friends.
Anyhoo, I think I’m ready to get my blog on again.
I’m ready to write. I’m ready to share photos. I’m ready to inspire anyone who stumbles across this little blog if I can . And I’m ready to celebrate!
Okay, so that last “I’m ready … ” sounds a bit cheesy but when you have a life where there really isn’t much to complain about, you’re pretty darn lucky. With the exception of the usual things that may challenge us peeps in the routine we call life, I feel pretty blessed.
Every now and then I long for adventure and now that summer is lingering around the corner, I am looking forward to camping and road trips, BBQ’s, days at the pool, beach days, bike riding with my girls and hiking trips with my hubby. Summer has been and always will be my all-time favourite part of the year.
So before I embark on a new chapter of writing here on the blog, I think I should begin by sharing what we’ve been up to the last four months I have missing in action.
We embarked on a huge renovation project we titled, “The Kitchen Job”. It is something we have talked about doing since we moved into this house ten years ago. Finally, after much saving and waiting, we decided to go for it. It began with us buying brand new stainless steel appliances from Home Depot in January because we couldn’t pass up the amazing savings we got during one of their huge blow out sales.
We got rid of our playroom and turned it into a dining room and added a large island to our new kitchen.
Here is our kitchen before the renovation …
Having done most of the labour ourselves, we saved huge amounts of money. So much so that we decided to rip out our old laminate flooring on the main level and install brand new hardwood laminate. I’m so glad we did because it totally changed the look of the house. Our girls love having a kitchen island to sit at on stools.
Here is what it looks like now …
We celebrated ten years of marriage this month and you know what? I still love the guy. Not that kind of love you think of from simply being with someone for so long but the kind of love you feel when you’re still in the beginning stage of a new relationship. I don’t quite know how we manage to keep this going for so long but I’m so glad we do. I think the both of us are pretty easy to please. It helps, I think, that we’re respectful of each other, support one another and still always do thoughtful things with the other person in mind.
We enjoyed a kid-less weekend away leaving our girls under the care of my parents and my youngest sister. So grateful they all pitched in to allow us the opportunity to have a romantic getaway all by ourselves. We went for Thai massages, spent the day at Stanley Park, dinners out, a little bit of shopping and a lot of talking and loving on each other.
Birthdays galore in this month and it’s always overwhelming but fun at the same time. Weird how that works. Stay tuned for more on a certain 9 year-old girl’s super cool, SPY themed birthday party happening this weekend. I have 18 girls coming to my house for 2 hours. I’m crazy, yes. Know it already but still dumb enough to go ahead with it. It’s what we do for our kids, right? Just nod your head and agree with me and I’ll still be your friend … wink, wink.
And since we’re still in the month of June, I should stop here. Can’t write about stuff that hasn’t already happened yet.
There you have it! I’m back on track and now all caught up on what I’ve been doing all this time I’ve been MIA. Just living life like all of you. Enjoying the moments, crying through the challenges and feeling grateful I’m alive and well.
What have all of you been up to lately?
