Every year, we go up to Mt. Baker in the middle of summer and walk through the trails.
This summer, we decided to take my parents, sister and kids along on our adventure. Having only visited Mt. Baker in the winter for skiing lessons, they were in for a real treat to see the beauty of the mountain terrain during the summer.
My mother was in awe of the scenery and kept asking me to take pictures of it all. She loves to blow up photos and display them on the walls in her home. Mt. Baker truly is beautiful throughout the summer months. I am always completely blown away when seeing lakes, greenery and snow all in one place.
The kids went crazy in the snow, making snowballs and sliding on top of it over and over again. We had to stop a few snowball fights here and there.
Unable to contain their excitement, the kids took off running ahead of us to see what they could find next. More snow? Animals? Or streams of water they could cross?
As you can see from my iPhone pics, the views are amazing. The trails are easy to hike with the exception of some tricky maneuvering when crossing patches of snow along the way. Nothing too challenging. The trail you see us walking along is called Chain Lakes Loop.
This is one of my favourite photos from the hike. My girls and my niece and nephews are hurrying to reach the bridge that takes us across to the other side of Chain Lakes Loop.
Visiting Mt. Baker to hike around it’s trails is a lovely, family-friendly adventure you can do in a day. Although we go every year, my girls never tire of it. They love the novelty of playing in snow in the middle of summer. Nothing beats having a snowball fight when it’s hot out. It’s pretty darn cool!
We are already thinking of re-visiting Mt. Baker to hike one of it’s other trails come September!
