It’s Thursday, October 2nd. My girls are all in school and it’s my day off.
A cup of coffee by my side, my lap top in front of me and a peaceful house.
Bliss.
We’ve had a slow start to the 2014-15 school year with the extended BC Teachers Strike that went into the first three weeks of September. After spending a week with their last year’s teacher while the school sorted out grade placements and class lists, my girls were finally assigned to their new class and teacher on Monday of this week. A month behind in the academic year, the learning can now officially begin and this mama can get back to doing what she loves best … writing.
So what’s new with me?
Manicures
Since my sister opened up her own in-home nail bar, my nails have never looked better. I began getting French Gel Nails and now I am experimenting with gel polish. Every few weeks, I try a new colour. It’s amazing how simply having your nails done can make you feel good. If you’re looking to have your nails made pretty and live in the South Surrey/White Rock area, give my sister a call. You can find her Facebook page here @ Nails by Gina.
Renovations
One of my biggest pet peeves has become the state of my home’s front entrance. When the kids get home after school, they throw their backpacks to the ground and leave their shoes everywhere. The mess quite literally kills me so I decided to do something about it. Thanks to Ikea and Home Depot, I got everything I needed to fix my problem. Hubby assembled my shelves and my dad put up the wane scotting, molding and coat hooks. Now all I have to do is repaint the brown wall and hang up my lovely pictures. When the kids come home from school now, the backpacks get hung along with jackets and the shoes go in the bamboo bins. Everyone gets their own hook. Everyone has their own shoe bin. Happiness for me.
Educational Resources for Parents and Teachers
At the beginning of this year, I started making my own teaching resources instead of buying them. Unless you’re a teacher or married to one, you have no idea how much money we spend on buying tools, activities, manipulatives, books and other resources that enrich or support the learning environment of our classrooms. When I’m not teaching, I’m home preparing units, activities, games and lessons. Along the way, I have been approached by friends and parents for ideas, suggestions or advice on how to help their children at home in math, reading or writing. So I decided to make digitally downloadable material that both teachers and parents can utilize with students or their own children. As I make new resources, I plan to share them on the blog and via a page I created on Facebook. You can view a few of my Happy BEE Learning Resources here! You can purchase/download items from here. Feel free to let me know what you think and what you need! I just may have something that could help you help your child.
And there you have the latest on what I’ve been up to. Nothing crazy or fun but keeping busy doing the things that keep me happy and feeling fulfilled.
What have you been up to?

Love the front entrance renovations, looks so good!! And congrats on the new endeavour, it’s such a great way to help people. I’ve shared a link on my FB page so others can access this great resource! Happy to have you back at #3ThingsThursday
Thanks Salma. I’m loving how organized our new front entrance is keeping my girls. Thank goodness!
